VST-AU Host Setup

License Keys

Our latest VST-AU Editors require a license key to operate. Please allow up to 48 hours after purchasing these products to receive your license key from reKon audio. Follow the instructions provided in the readme.txt file that came with your purchase to install the license key properly before using the software.

Make sure your provided license key file is copied/located in each folder the software is running from (VST folder, AU folder, and standalone application folder).

Installation

Our latest VST-AU Editors are installed via a standard installer for Mac and Windows. Follow the instructions provided in the readme.txt file that came with your purchase.

Windows Installation:

1. Be sure to read the provided readme.txt file and download the product's PDF manual (see the 'Support/Product Manuals' section of this web site) before you begin using the product. It contains detailed information regarding the use and MIDI Setup procedures required to successfully connect to your computer and synthesizer.

2. Run the .msi installer file. This will install the VST and Standalone application and related files to the following folders on your computer:

For 32-bit Windows operating systems:
VST: c:/Program Files/Common Files/VST2/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/
Standalone: c:/Program Files/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/

For 64-bit Windows operating systems:
VST: c:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/VST2/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/
Standalone: c:/Program Files (x86)/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/

*Note that these products are 32-bit products and are not designed to run natively in 64-bit DAW hosts.

3. Place your provided license key (.rkl file) into each of the folders from step 2 to begin using the product. The product will not allow operation without the provided license key!

Mac OSX Installation:

1. Be sure to read the provided readme.txt file and download the product's PDF manual (see the 'Support/Product Manuals' section of this web site) before you begin using the product. It contains detailed information regarding the use and MIDI Setup procedures required to successfully connect to your computer and synthesizer.

2. Run the VST-AU_LittlePhatty_Editor.pkg installer file. This will install the VST, AU and Standalone application and related files to the following folders on your computer:

AU: [installed location]/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/
VST: [installed location]/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/
Standalone: [installed location]/Applications/reKon audio/[VST-AU Editor Name]/

*Note that you may need to copy the VST and Component folder files to your [User/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/ folder for your host to be able to find them.

3. Place your provided license key (.rkl file) into each of the folders from step 2 to begin using the product. The product will not allow operation without the provided license key!

DAW Host Setup Instructions

When using the VST or Audio Unit version of the software you will need to setup your MIDI ports in your DAW host so that there are no conflicts between the VST-AU Editor and the DAW host.

You will need to disable the MIDI Input and Output ports in your host's MIDI Setup that you plan to use the VST-AU Editor/synth with. Failing to do so will not allow these ports to be available in the VST-AU Editor's MIDI Setup.

Sending MIDI Sequencer data to the Pulse:
You will still be able to send host sequencer data (Note On/Off, Pitchbend, Modulation, Continuous Controller, Aftertouch and Poly Pressure messages) to the synth by sending the MIDI track sequence data through the VST-AU Editor track instead of directly to the MIDI port that the synth is using.

Receiving MIDI Sequencer data:
You may also record sequence data (Note On/Off, Pitchbend, Modulation, Continuous Controller, Aftertouch and Poly Pressure messages) into a host MIDI sequencer track by recording this data through the VST-AU Editor instead of recording it directly from the MIDI port the synth is on.

Using MIDI Loopback devices:
You may be able to instead use a MIDI Loopback device (Such as Hubi's Loopback device) to be able to use your MIDI ports with more than one application at a time. This, however, has not been tested by reKon audio and may present issues with feeback or crashing the host. The VST-AU Editor will be able to see your MIDI Loopback devices in the MIDI Setup view, just as it would any normal MIDI port.

Cubase SX Setup Procedure:

1. Be sure to follow the above Installation and Host Setup instructions first.
2. Open Cubase SX.
3. Create a new project.
4. Open your 'VST Instruments' panel and then select the VST-AU Editor VST in a slot.
5. Open the 'MIDI Setup' dialog in the editor and select the MIDI Input and Output ports that the synth is connected to.

You may also route MIDI from the host to the editor like this:

1. Create a 'MIDI' track.
2. On the I/O properties panel for this MIDI track, assign the MIDI input to a controller keyboard. Assign the MIDI output to the VST-AU Editor. (this will be the MIDI track to play and record your note/pitch/mod changes to the synth)
3. Activate the little yellow 'speaker' icon for the MIDI track (this allows them to be played even if the track is not selected).

You may also route MIDI to the host from the editor like this:

1. Create a 'MIDI track'.
2. On the I/O properties panel for this MIDI track, assign the MIDI input to the VST-AU Editor. (this will be the MIDI track to play and record your note/pitch/mod changes from the synth to the host).
3. Activate the little yellow 'speaker' icon for the MIDI track (this allows them to be played even if the track is not selected).

Ableton Live Setup Procedure:

1. Be sure to follow the above Installation and Host Setup instructions first.
2. Open Ableton Live.
3. Create a new project.
4. Drag the VST-AU Editor to a new track.
5. Open the 'MIDI Setup' dialog in the editor and select the MIDI Input and Output ports that the synth is connected to.

1. Create a 'MIDI' track.
2. On the I/O properties panel for this MIDI track, assign the MIDI input to a controller keyboard. Assign the MIDI output to the VST-AU Editor. (this will be the MIDI track to play and record your note/pitch/mod changes to the synth)
